'A Christmas Carol' Audition and Recall

Yesterday were our Christmas Carol auditions.

At the end of last week we read through the Christmas Carol script. After studying 'A Christmas Carol' for my English Literature GCSE I was very familiar to the story. I enjoyed the script and automatically thought about auditioning for Mrs Dibler. I know that this is a small part compared to others in the script, but I envisioned myself performing as Mrs Dibler and making her character really over the top and cockney. I went home and told my family about my audition idea. My mam was slightly concerned and thought I should audition for a bigger role. She thought my talent would go to waste on a small role. This inspired me and then made me think about auditioning for Mrs Cratchit. I quickly changed my mind and with encouragement from others, I auditioned for the Ghost of the Christmas Past. After re-reading the script I was intrigued by the character and wondered what I could do to make my audition stand out from others.

When performing the role, I used a cockney accent. I realised that this was a risky idea because I know that the Ghost of the Christmas Past is a softer and more reserved character which typically is not associated with Cockneys.
During the audition I was slightly nervous (which I didn't dare admit to anyone because everyone else was already on edge and I didn't want to fuel the fire). I walked into the green room with my head held high. I was happy with my audition and was pretty proud of myself when I walked out, whether I would get the role or not.

After coming home and waiting for the feedback from the audition, I saw in the Facebook group that a recall list had been posted. My recall was for Mrs Cratchit which I was buzzing with. Obviously, it was a shame that I didn't suit the role of the Christmas Past but I knew before the audition that it was risky for me to audition with a cockney accent. I learned my lines through the night and next morning and auditioned for Mrs Cratchit in scene 19 today. Immediately, I felt much more at ease when performing as Mrs Cratchit. I don't know why but I felt more suited to the role. Tom was telling me in the recall how he was looking for someone different for the role of the Christmas Past as he envisioned that role with a softer accent which, of course, was absolutely no problem at all. I thoroughly enjoyed the audition and I'm excited to hear the final roles.
