The Hadleigh Hall Inheritance

Last week we embarked on our first acting journey. We performed for the Mayor and her party at Preston Hall. I performed the role of Chief Inspector Bailey. Before we developed the piece, I was given some of Grabham's line so Sophie (Grabham) and I could be a little double act. I would say that this worked really well.

Our line run through was very interesting. At first, it took me a while to get to grips with the story line. When I started to understand and I found out the whole plot, I loved it! At first I would have liked to be Jan, but after finding out I was Bailey I was pleased. Originally Bailey only had one paragraph at the end of the play. I was slightly gutted to be honest because I wanted a chance to show people what I could do. So, when some of Sophie's lines were given to me I was chuffed.

It took a while for me to understand what I needed to do in order to play a detective because in the past I have never played a detective. I thought back to GCSE drama for reference and remembered playing a security guard. In the end, I thought that the personality traits which I used when playing the security guard were very similar to those of the detective because both characters were quite serious and hard to crack.

On the night, obviously, I was slightly nervous as it was my first performance in front of a large crowd. My nerves were calmed slightly after our rehearsal at the hall. I also loved getting my makeup and hair done by the crew. They made me feel calm because they were very chatty (Just like me).

Before going on stage, I was excited. My costume was perfect as were my hair and make-up. It was almost as if  I'd had a sudden adrenaline rush. I just wanted to be on the stage performing. After the performance ended, I was complimented on my loud volume and clear voice. I was very pleased considering we were performing for people of an older age so many of them may have been slightly hard for hearing. I will admit that when on stage I zoned out for a second and missed my cue. But you live and you learn and after talking to people who watched it they said it was hardly noticeable.

A Summary of the Plot
The Hadleigh Hall Inheritance is a play centred around Mrs Frobisher. Mrs Frobisher is an elderly rich woman who does not have long left to live. She is cared for by her maid Sarah who is pregnant with her boyfriend Barry. One day, Mrs Frobisher invited over her two nieces and nephew to discuss her will. Mrs Frobisher had previously only included her family in her will, but after reconsideration she promises everything to Sarah the maid. Her family are furious about this decision as Mrs Frobisher is to sign this will with Mr Jenkins (her solicitor) the next day. When morning comes, Mrs Frobisher has died in mysterious circumstances … and everyone is a suspect.
