The search for Scrooge is ongoing.
Tom is struggling to find someone for Scrooge. At auditions Tom was left undecided as to who to cast for Scrooge. Understandably, the crew would prefer Scrooge to be played by a male. But, no one is standing out. On Tuesday (the same day we had our method acting lesson) Ollie and Tom decided to audition everyone for Scrooge, both male and female. I was first to be called to audition. When talking to Tom he explained that he would like Scrooge to have a very raspy and evil sounding Southern voice. He also wants the actor playing Scrooge to have a hunched back to truly embody Scrooge. We read a small extract of the play and I put on my most manly and snivelling voice. However, I didn't like trying to play Scrooge and it didn't come to me as naturally as Mrs Cratchit did. But, you never know if you never try and I did have fun when auditioning despite not being fond of playing the character.
After the audition, I went to join the others who were partaking in improv. The film and TV crew arranged this little workshop to try and get us all familiar with them. We stood in a circle and Conrad told us that two people could enter the middle of the circle and make up a scene using whichever accent they would like. This was a big laugh and everyone was enjoying it. Of course, Sophie and I entered the circle and done our little double act of accents which everyone on our course knows us for.
Conrad then gave us a scenario to act out and we had to use accents from 'A Christmas Carol' in order to familiarise ourselves with speaking Cockney, which will be the most common accent used in the play. It was massively funny but began to get out of hand when people were grasping the accent and becoming more confident. For some reason, the room turned into a massive mess of improv where everyone was shouting at each other in Cockney. It's safe to say that there will be no problem when it comes to people having to speak with the accent.
I'd be under exaggerating if I said I went home with a minor headache.
