Frankenstein is a book written in 1818 by a woman named Mary Shelley and it is a classic favourite. Frankenstein tell the story of scientist Victor Frankenstein who is successful into bringing one of his creations to life. However, it is not as perfect as he imagines it to be and is in fact hideous. The creature is a shame to mankind and Victor himself. In retaliation the monster seeks vengeance through murder and terror …
Danny Boyle is the brains behind the show and wants to raise awareness for the brilliant show that he is director of. The role of Frankenstein is split between Jonny Lee Miller (who I love and have talked about in a previous blog post) and the man, the myth, the legend; Benedict Cumberbatch.
I thought that Benedict Cumberbatch's description of the show was nothing short of captivating. He shares light on the story of Frankenstein in a loving and compassionate way. Cumberbatch shares that "We all want to understand eachother visually and based on appearance which is damaging to both the observors and those being observed. We have a massive capacity for love and we search for ir and need it."
Could you put it any better?
Frankenstein is trying to control science through chaos and shows us the danger of a male ego. Let me tell you, after this introduction I cannot wait to see what The National Theatre have done with the story!
