Characters

Kelly has also taught us about the importance of characters. Writing a character is very, very important as the audience or viewer can relate to them or look up to them etc. My favourite TV character is 'Villainelle' off the BBC show 'Killing Eve'. Villainelle (Jodie Comer) is my favourite because (despite being a psychopathic hit woman) I like that she speaks her mind always and is unapologetically herself. I also love her style and the way she carries herself. She can do multiple different accents and languages which is the type of acting I love doing the most because i'm completely not myself. My favourite movie character is probably 'Sickboy' off the movie 'Trainspotting'. Not only is he drop dead gorgeous, but I also love the cocky nature of his character and I appreciate how well Jonny Lee Miller gets into character as I feel sickboy is a hard character to embody.

A book named 'The Art and Science of Screenwriting' written by Phillip Parker tells us the different things to look for and involve when making a character, such as;
The 'Dominant Impression' of a character which is the things we see before they do anything eg, costume, look, posture, the way they carry themselves etc.
A 'Dominant Attitude' is the personality of a character such as their intelligence, beliefs or personality.
The 'World' of a character is their general history, relationships, class, education or significant events.
All of this must be taken into account. The name of a character is also very important. Kelly gave us a task where we learned about the importance of names in which we were given names and had to write down what their names suggested. This is what I came up with;

Elsie Deabody - Working class, Gypsy, spoilt and blonde.
Romeo Brass - Womanizer, Upper class, Well spoken and a snob.
Tiffany Swandon - Slightly dosey, hair and beauty student, relies a lot on her people skills, outgoing.
Leroy Jay - Working class, footballer, a 'lads lad'.
Rob Brown - A big softie, has a job in the building industry, slightly boring.

Costume also plays a very big factor when coming to a character because that is the dominant impression and what we first make a judgement on before the characters even open their mouth. Each of these factors should be carefully thought out when coming to a character.
