Log Lines

A Log Line is a brief summary of a television program, film, or book. Kelly taught us how to write log lines for future reference when screenwriting.
A Log Lines structure should be;
  1. The names of lead characters.
  2. Setting.
  3. What do they want?
  4. What or who tries to stop them?
  5. What challenge do they have to complete to get what they want?
  6. Are they changed by their experience?
A Log Line is quite similar to the story triangle (Freytag Pyramid) which is the pattern that stories usually follow, eg:

How to Make Storytelling Effective and Engaging - Sevin Nguyen ...
Here is an example of a Log Line that I wrote about 'Dirty Dancing';

Baby is on a summer retreat with her family when she meets Johnny. She has a fascination with Johnny and his hobby … dancing. Baby wants nothing more than to dance with Johnny, but her father disapproves. She takes lessons with Johnny behind her father's back and also starts falling in love with the mysterious dancer. Eventually, she gains the confidence to prove her father and his opinions wrong and dances on the main stage.
